PROJECT UPDATE
You helped us meet our most recent fundraising goal--which opens the door for a stretch goal to help a preschool student!
Last week the preschool teachers asked for help with a home library program. They are hoping that each student can be given five books a month to take home so that can they practice their reading skills outside of school hours.
But to make these "home libraries" possible for each one of our 104 preschool students, we need to raise $5,000 more. Your support will make a world of difference for a preschool student right now.

The home library program began at the start of the 2020-21 school year. Each month, the preschool teachers put together packets of books and educational materials for their preschool students to take home, so that they could have basic supplies available during distance learning. This program proved to be very popular with students, parents, and teachers alike. Now, teachers are requesting support to continue the project into the next school year.
Helping students and their parents to build a home library will encourage them to engage in sustained educational opportunities outside of school hours, and practice and improve critical early literacy skills.

Preschoolers Need Your Help.
Here's the good news: SVUSD will soon receive an extra $15 million from the federal and state governments to help K-12 students overcome the effects of the pandemic. These funds are sorely needed by all of our local students.
The bad news is that the extra funds cannot be used to support the preschool program. Yet our youngest learners
will need just as much—if not more—extra support to bounce back from this difficult year.

Thank you, donors!
Earlier in the month, we issued a call for help. Thanks to the many donors who already made a gift in support of preschool! Your gift was matched and went toward the purchase of games, furniture, and other essentials for our youngest learners (see below for more details).
When they returned to school in April, preschool teachers had to make do with what they already had. But our students deserve better.
Now that in-person schooling has resumed, together we can help make sure each student has exactly what they need to be successful and stay healthy.
Preschool teachers have already identified several key priorities:
Now that in-person schooling has resumed, together we can help make sure each student has exactly what they need to be successful and stay healthy.
Preschool teachers have already identified several key priorities:
- More educational supplies, like books, games, and other materials.
- Equipment that can promote a more hygienic environment, such as plastic trays which will function as individual work spaces and can be sanitized after each use.
- New and improved furniture, such as longer tables to allow for social distancing.
Donations made in response to this call for help have been matched by Mark, one of SVEF's board members. Your support will help provide books, games, furniture, and other educational materials. to local preschool students. Your generosity will also support all of our programs for the students of Sonoma Valley during this time of great need.
Attending preschool is one of the most effective ways to ensure that every child gets the strong start they need. Thank you for helping to ensure that no student is left behind during their first critical years of education.
