FALL APPEAL 2011

Please Donate Today.
The money we raise benefits Sonoma Valley school kids daily in every grade level.

Dear Friends,

Some of you are alumni of our local schools, some are school parents, some are school teachers and some are dedicated community volunteers. Some of you may be all four. Some of you are our strongest supporters, and some we have yet to meet. We need all of you! We trust you will enjoy this brief report on the work we are doing in our local schools.

The Sonoma Valley Education Foundation is dedicated to excellence in Pre-K through 12th grade education. We leverage financial capital and community resources to make sure every student graduates from our schools ready for college, career, and civic responsibility.

We consistently support programs aimed at raising academic achievement for all 4,467 students in our school district.

This has been a year of inspiring collaboration and success. As the first school district in the nation to work side by side with the Exploratorium Science Museum of San Francisco, we will achieve an 85% increase in the number of students learning Exploratorium Science this year.  We fund art through the Visual Thinking Strategies Program, which is now district-wide. Our School Gardens are going ‘Farm to Cafeteria’ this year producing veggies for school salad bars. Our Teacher Support Network is thriving at Sonoma Valley High School, and we are proud to have partnered on doubling the number of students attending the El Verano Preschool.

In public education, there simply is not enough state funding for all the programs needed to provide a top-notch education right here in our valley. There is insufficient funding for excellence in science, math and technology, the arts, and academic enrichment programs including school gardens and classroom grants. There are not enough of the crucial dollars needed to train and match our team of dedicated volunteers in the classrooms and the College and Career Center at Sonoma Valley High School.

It is your support that makes all this possible and there is a lot you can do to help. By joining forces now we can look to a brighter future for our schools. We can gain ground rather than lose momentum, and together we will be better prepared to reduce the effects of looming new state cutbacks to education.

Please make a donation now. Your support is vital. The money we raise together benefits every child in every grade of our schools. In closing we want to thank you for joining our effort to create great schools in Sonoma.
